Today Doris is interviewing Eleanor Brunt, who is a garden & Hedgerow inspired florist based in Somerset. She owns her own business called ‘The Garden Florist’ and is passionate about flowers & the countryside.
Tell us a little about yourself.
I am local to the area that I live in Just outside Ilminster, Somerset. I’ve lived and grown up here, much like the rest of my family. I come from a farming family which is where I get a lot of my inspiration from. Having been so lucky to grown up in the countryside, hedgerows and the country gardens of my maternal and paternal grandmothers who are a real inspiration to me.
How did you get started?
I started out with floristry years ago, when I worked in a florist as a Saturday girl, but I think my love of flowers probably started much before that as mum, granny and nanny are all keen gardeners and have always kept me interested in flowers.
How has your business progressed?
This year is the first year is the first year that I have properly grown a large amount of cut flowers from seed. (with the guidance of my granny!) down at my other grandparents farm. As I work full time in another area of work, I’m really pleased how my own homegrown flowers have turned out this year as it really takes up your time looking after them, alongside everything else floristry business wise!
Where and how do you sell your flowers?
At present, my customer base is local. I am very lucky to have some good friends that have recommended me to other people and have managed to get wedding business, just through word of mouth. Also at the moment I’m at the age where all my friends are getting married so it really nice that they’re coming to me for their wedding flowers.
What does the future hold for….
A thing that’s really important to me is keeping things real, I’m proud of where I come from and want to keep that running through my style of floristry.
